CDC Launches Clean Hands Count Campaign on World Hand Hygiene Day

Clean Hands Count for…Everyone

On May 5, World Hand Hygiene Day, CDC launched Clean Hands Count, a new campaign urging health care providers, patients, and patients’ loved ones to clean their hands to prevent health care-associated infections.


  Clean Hands Count  

Although unclean hands are known to contribute to germ spread in medical facilities, studies show that adherence to CDC hand hygiene recommendations remains low among health care providers, with some clinicians cleaning their hands less than half of the times they should.


Clean Hands Count aims to improve health care provider adherence to CDC hand hygiene recommendations, address the myths and misperceptions about hand hygiene practice, and empower patients to play a role in their care by asking or reminding health care providers to clean their hands. The campaign offers several promotional products including posters, fact sheets, infographics, and brochures that are featured on CDC’s hand hygiene website:
