Nominations accepted through May 31, 2017, for work done by individuals and teams

Boston, MA, April 27, 2017—The National Patient Safety Foundation’s Lucian Leape Institute announced today the creation of a new award program, the NPSF Lucian Leape Institute Medtronic Safety Culture & Technology Innovator Awards. This award program will recognize extraordinary and innovative initiatives to drive successful implementation of technology through culture change in health care.

The nomination period runs from today through May 31, 2017. Awards will be conferred on September 28, 2017, at the 11th annual Lucian Leape Institute Forum & Keynote Dinner in Boston, MA.

“Technology is a critical tool for advancing patient and workforce safety, and culture and leadership strongly influence successful implementation and sustainability of these technologies,” said Tejal K. Gandhi, MD, MPH, CPPS, President and CEO of the National Patient Safety Foundation (NPSF), President of the Lucian Leape Institute and, effective May 1, Chief Clinical and Safety Officer at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) as part of a merger of the two organizations. “This award program seeks to recognize individuals and teams who used culture change to successfully implement a new technology innovation.”

The award’s name recognizes Medtronic as inaugural funder of the Lucian Leape Institute.

Award recipients will be selected by a panel of judges who will review all nominations for the level of improvement to patient or workforce safety, evidence of sustainability, the potential that the project can be successfully transferred to other organizations, and other criteria.

Those chosen to receive the award will receive complimentary travel and registration to the Lucian Leape Institute Forum & Keynote Dinner.

Full details about the award, including how to submit a nomination online, are available at
