Safety Experts to Examine Medical Errors – Findings from Survey Of Public Attitudes about Safety to be Announced

What: The National Patient Safety Foundation (NPSF) is hosting a first-of-its-kind briefing entitled Finding Cures for Medical Error. The briefing will feature experts and leaders who are redefining how we understand and learn from medical errors. The issue of patient safety will be addressed from medical, pharmaceutical and public perspectives, and the use of simulators to prevent medical errors also will be explored. Findings from a new poll of public attitudes and expectations regarding safety in the health care system will be unveiled, as well. Speakers will be available for interviews.

Background: Launched this year, the NPSF is an unprecedented initiative to improve health care safety by studying why errors in the health care system occur and implementing safeguards to prevent such failures from injuring patients. NPSF board members represent every major segment of the health care system, as well as employers, medical ethicists, public health advocates and distinguished scientific research institutions.
