Clarian Health Partners Joins The National Patient Safety Foundation to Stand Up for Patient Safety

Methodist, Indiana University and Riley Hospitals
Will Aid National Effort to Improve Patient Safety

(McLean, VA)-The National Patient Safety Foundation (NPSF) is proud to announce that Clarian Health Partners has joined a nationwide effort to improve patient safety. Clarian has joined the Stand Up for Patient Safety campaign, which brings together leading hospitals and health systems committed to developing a hospital-driven, patientfocused safety agenda.

Through its participation, Clarian joins a premier group of health care institutions that includes Vanderbilt, Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women's Hospital, among others. The Stand Up campaign gives Clarian access to patient safety resources and allows the Indiana hospital system's officials to network with national experts more frequently. Clarian, in turn, will provide the NPSF and participating campaign members with a pediatric patient safety brochure template developed by Riley Hospital for Children.

"I am so pleased to see Clarian's commitment to patient safety," said Tim Flaherty, MD, Chair of NPSF's board of directors. "In joining our national movement, our partnership will work to improve patient safety."

Kathy Rapala, RN, director of risk management and patient safety at Clarian, said: "Issues of patient safety deserve national and local attention. Participating in the Stand Up campaign is one more way that Clarian is demonstrating its overall commitment to keeping patients safe."

NPSF launched the Stand Up for Patient Safety campaign in 2002 with 17 Founding Members. The program offers hospitals and health systems a meaningful way to participate in the national patient safety movement. The campaign is driven by its members, whose needs define the program offerings. Supported by the resources and expertise of the foundation, the program provides educational tools and programs, conferences on safety topics, forums for sharing best practices, and materials for internal and external communication.
