Kathryn Rapala, DNP, JD, RN, CPPS

Kathryn Rapala, DNP, JD, RN, CPPS, is Vice President of Clinical Risk Management for Aurora Health Care. She was formerly a visiting associate professor at Purdue School of Nursing and executive director of the Indianapolis Coalition for Patient Safety. Her grant with the Indianapolis Coalition for Patient Safety led to the development of the Infusion Pump Informatics Group at the Purdue Regenstrief Center for Healthcare Engineering.  Rapala was director of risk management and patient safety at Clarian Health for nine years, and started her health care career as a staff nurse in the Riley Hospital for Children Newborn Intensive Care Unit.

Rapala is on the Board of Advisors for the National Patient Safety Foundation, on the National Patient Safety Foundation Research Committee, and is chair of the Expert Oversight Committee for the Certification Board for Professionals in Patient Safety.
Rapala was selected for a 2001 American Hospital Association/National Patient Safety Foundation Patient Safety Fellowship. She is the recipient of the American Society of Healthcare Risk Management Todd Pickett National Patient Safety Award for her development of the Clarian Safe Passage Program.
