Kathryn J. McDonagh, PhD, is a certified executive coach and governance advisor. She has over 38 years of experience in health care leadership roles in a variety of settings across the country. She was most recently Vice President for Executive Relations at Hospira, Inc. She has been a Chief Nursing Officer, Chief Operating Officer, or Chief Executive Officer at such organizations as Saint Joseph’s Health System of Atlanta, Saint Thomas Health Services in Nashville, Saint Clare’s Health Services in New Jersey, and CHRISTUS Spohn Health System in Corpus Christi, TX.
Dr. McDonagh’s research has focused on health care governing boards and their impact on hospital performance. She has published extensively and speaks at national conferences about governing board effectiveness and health care leadership topics. She has been on many governing boards, including the Board of Governors of NPSF and the boards of the Center for Healthcare Governance, the Institute for Diversity in Health Management, and the National Center for Healthcare Leadership.
Kathy won a Telly Award, a National Cable Television Award, in 2000 as host and creator of the program “Focus on Health.” She has been recognized for her leadership through many awards, including Fellowship in the American Academy of Nursing and the YWCA Academy of Women of Achievement Award.
Kathy is a graduate of Providence Hospital School of Nursing in Southfield, Michigan, the University of Detroit, and the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. She received a PhD degree in Health Sciences from Touro University International.
