FDA Campaign Educates Consumers on Fake Online Pharmacies

Buying medicines online can save money, but it can be dangerous. The Food and Drug Administration’s BeSafeRx – Know Your Online Pharmacy website offers resources aimed at helping you avoid the risks of purchasing medicines from unlicensed online pharmacies, how to identify them, and how to find legitimate online pharmacies.

Fake online pharmacies use sophisticated marketing efforts or phony web storefronts to appear legitimate, so FDA recommends consumers confirm that an online pharmacy is licensed in the United States. Patients who buy medicines from these fraudulent websites may be putting their health at risk because the products may contain the wrong ingredients, or too little or too much of the active ingredient, or they might be made with other harmful substances. As a result, consumers may not receive the therapy they need, or they may experience unexpected side effects and possibly get worse.

So before purchasing medicines online, protect yourself and your loved one by using the BeSafeRx – Know Your Online Pharmacy online tools and resources.
