Applications Being Accepted for New Board of Governors
December 13, 2005, North Adams, MA — The Board of Directors of the National Patient Safety Foundation (NPSF) recently approved a restructuring of the organization’s governing bodies to broaden the representation and input of all stakeholders committed to enhancing patient safety.
“For close to a decade NPSF has been the ‘conscience’ of the patient safety movement, successfully bringing all stakeholders together,” said Paul A. Gluck, M.D., Chair of the NPSF Board of Directors. “We are pleased to be celebrating our ten year anniversary with an expansion of stakeholder representation, marking a new chapter in the evolution of the Foundation.”
The governance structure for NPSF is being redesigned to include a new Board of Governors which will provide expertise and assistance in focusing key programs and initiatives to meet the NPSF mission. This new Board of Governors is designed as the vehicle for engaging a broad and diverse group of individuals and stakeholders interested in patient safety. It is anticipated that this group will meet twice a year.
NPSF continues to be managed by a Board of Directors and officers but the overall size of the Board of Directors is now reduced to include 12-15 individuals who are responsible for operational oversight, organizational efficiency and financial health, policy and strategic direction. The Board of Directors is comprised of individuals who represent a wide range of public interest in patient safety including patient representatives, healthcare providers, experts in patient safety, and specialists in public health. A listing of the 2006 officers for NPSF is attached to this release.
The NPSF Distinguished Advisors, a body of experts and recognized leaders in patient safety who are supportive of the NPSF mission and are appointed by the Board of Directors, also continues as part of the new governance structure.
“This is a planned and exciting restructuring of our Board to allow continued and expanded broad representation from all stakeholders via the new Board of Governors,” said Dr. Gluck. “Our reconstituted Board of Directors can now strengthen its role in terms of our operational and tactical efficiency.”
Individuals interested in being considered for the Board of Governors can complete an application form located at http://npsf.npsfcongress.info/html/board_of_directors.html. For consideration, applications must be submitted to NPSF no later than January 28, 2006.
