September 4, 2007 – The National Patient Safety Foundation (NPSF) announced today that Vocera Communications has joined its Corporate Council as an Associate Member.  The Corporate Council program provides a forum for leading health care products and services companies to work along side NPSF Board members, health care providers, hospital executives, and patients and their families with a single convergent goal – making patient care safer.

Vocera Communications is a voice communications platform that enables immediate dialog between clinical staff members. The system has proven to improve staff communication, productivity and teamwork by enabling instant voice communication among teams. Instant voice access to key resources reduces delays in the delivery of care that can impact patient safety outcomes.

“Vocera has found through extensive customer research that technology can enable a safer clinical environment for both staff and patients,” said Robert Zollars, CEO of Vocera Communications. “The NPSF goal to create a collaborative environment between providers, executives, patients and technology providers will ensure IT developments are designed to meet clinical and patient safety needs.”

NPSF collaborates with its Corporate Council members on emerging patient safety topics.  By pooling their resources and expertise, the NPSF Board working along with its Corporate Council members engage in joint problem-solving activities to advance the cause and culture of patient safety.

“The National Patient Safety Foundation is pleased to have Vocera Communications as a member of our Corporate Council, Their work to improve communication and transfer of information among clinical staff members addresses a critical aspect of patient safety work as communication breakdowns have been shown to be a key driver of medical errors.  We look forward to working with them in support of our mutual mission to improve the safety of the health care system,” noted Diane C. Pinakiewicz, President of the National Patient Safety Foundation.
