Program aligns diverse stakeholders with commitment to improving health care safety

Boston, MA, March 11, 2015—The National Patient Safety Foundation (NPSF), a central voice for patient safety since 1997, is pleased to announce that Coverys, one of the largest medical professional liability insurers in the country, has joined the NPSF Patient Safety Coalition.

Coverys companies insure more than 32,000 physicians, dentists, and allied health professionals, as well as more than 500 hospitals, health centers, and clinics across the US.

“At Coverys, we stress the importance of clinical risk management and place a high degree of emphasis on our work with policyholders to identify and manage risk to reduce medical errors,” said Gregg Hanson, president and chief executive officer of Coverys. “Joining the NPSF Patient Safety Coalition reflects our commitment to finding solutions that can help make health care safer.”

The NPSF Patient Safety Coalition was created to align diverse stakeholders from across the continuum of care in a unifying mission of making health care safer for patients and the workforce. Membership is open to myriad groups, including solutions providers working to address patient safety challenges, professional associations, advocacy organizations, and other similarly committed organizations. Coalition members gain valuable opportunities for networking, learning, and knowledge sharing through quarterly webinars, an annual member meeting, special projects and events, and other high-value activities.

“Like other members of the NPSF Patient Safety Coalition, Coverys shares the NPSF goal of seeking solutions to prevent harm to patients,” said Tejal K. Gandhi, MD, MPH, CPPS, president and CEO of NPSF. “We are very pleased to welcome their membership and we look forward to working with them to share knowledge and promote advances in the field.”
