NPSF Program Aligns Stakeholders from Across Health Care in a Unifying Mission

Boston, MA, July 8, 2014—The National Patient Safety Foundation (NPSF), a central voice for patient safety since 1997, is pleased to announce that MERCI has joined the NPSF Patient Safety Coalition. MERCI (Medical Error Reduction and Certification, Inc.) provides turnkey training programs that help hospitals reduce medical errors and improve patient safety, and is a partnership between Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and the Simulab Corporation.

“MERCI is committed to advancing the patient safety mission through our training enterprise, reducing medical errors, and improving the quality of care for patients across the health care continuum, said Jeffrey H. Barsuk, MD, MS, MERCI’s Chief Medical Officer and Associate Professor of Medicine at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. “Participating in the NPSF Patient Safety Coalition allows us to share knowledge and solutions with like-minded organizations and to strengthen our collaborative efforts in the delivery of safe care.”

The NPSF Patient Safety Coalition was created to align stakeholders from across the continuum of care in a unifying mission to make health care safer for all. Membership is open to solutions providers working to address patient safety challenges, professional associations, advocacy organizations, and other entities. Joining the Coalition provides unique opportunities for networking, learning, and knowledge-sharing through quarterly conference calls, an annual member meeting, webinars, and other high-value activities.

“The NPSF Patient Safety Coalition is comprised of diverse organizations representing varied areas of focus, and all share a common goal of accelerating patient safety science and practice,” said Tejal K. Gandhi, MD, MPH, CPPS, president of NPSF. “We are proud to welcome MERCI as a new member and look forward to meaningful collaboration in this important work.”
