Program Aligns Stakeholders from Across Health Care in a Unifying Mission
Boston, MA, July 9, 2014—The National Patient Safety Foundation (NPSF), a central voice for patient safety since 1997, is pleased to announce that Healthcare Performance Improvement (HPI) has joined the NPSF Patient Safety Coalition. HPI, a consulting firm expert in improving human performance in complex systems, guides healthcare organizations in creating and sustaining a high-reliability performance culture that results in improvements in safety, quality, and satisfaction.
“Safety is a precondition – the only acceptable goal is zero events of harm. And when high reliability principles that optimize safety are engrained in an organization, what results is an operating system that drives results in all areas of performance,” said Gary R. Yates, MD, president of HPI. “Joining the NPSF Patient Safety Coalition is recognition of our strong organizational kinship with the Foundation and its mission, and we envision a long and productive relationship as we strive together to advance this essential patient safety work.”
The NPSF Patient Safety Coalition was created to align stakeholders from across the continuum of care in a unifying mission to make health care safer for all. Membership is open to solutions providers working to address patient safety challenges, professional associations, advocacy organizations, and other entities. Joining the Coalition provides unique opportunities for networking, learning, and knowledge sharing through quarterly conference calls, an annual member meeting, webinars, and other high-value activities.
“The NPSF Patient Safety Coalition includes a diverse array of organizations that all share NPSF’s vision for safety in health care,” said Tejal K. Gandhi, MD, MPH, CPPS, president of NPSF. “We are delighted that HPI stands with us as a committed Coalition member and we look forward to collaborating in efforts to eliminate harm in the health care industry.”
