Jane D. Englebright, PhD, RN

Jane D. Englebright, PhD, RN, is a proven leader, teacher, and unfailing advocate for patient safety. Dr. Englebright currently serves as Chief Nursing Officer, Patient Safety Officer, and Vice President, in the Clinical Services Group at the Hospital Corporation of America (HCA), where she has led their Patient Safety programs since their inception in 2000. Her program accomplishments include implementation of bar code medication administration (BCMA) and transfusion administration technology across 162 hospitals, creation of a shared event learning data base, and implementation of a robust program for reducing hospital associated infections, including influenza.

HCA’s patient safety efforts have been recognized with the WayPaver Award from the unSUMMIT in 2006 for pioneering work in BCMA, the Cheers Award from the Institute for Safe Medication Practices in 2006 for BCMA and again in 2011 for Tubing and Line Safety, and by the Joint Commission in 2011 for reaching 90% or greater seasonal flu vaccination rate among employees.

Dr. Englebright graduated from Western Kentucky University and the University of Kentucky, completing her graduate studies in nursing at Texas Women’s University. She is a member of the Board of Governors at the National Patient Safety Foundation.
