The Consumer Health Information Corporation strives to educate patients and offer resources. These resources come in the form of educational programs, services and fact sheets for consumers, health care providers, and pharmaceutical companies. Because the media center is quite expansive, there is a search bar for the topic being researched.

Consumers Advancing Patient Safety hopes to create a successful relationship between consumers and providers so as to prevent misunderstandings and potentially harmful mishaps. The website features news, programs, and resources.

Empowered Patient Coalition

The Empowered Patient Coalition is a consumer and advocate-led effort to inform, engage and empower the public to assume a greater role in their own medical treatment and in becoming a driving force for meaningful health care reform. The coalition is a California non-profit organization and a 501(c)(3) charitable organization as determined by the IRS.

Family Doctor is a great educational resource for patients.  It offers a glossary of conditions, search catlaog by symptom, “Healthy Living” section, “Smart Patient Guide”, and “Over-The-Counter Guide” as well as various health tools such as a health definitions dictionary and “Drug info” section. It also offers various helpful tips for patients to ensure they are recieving opimal healthcare that is both safe and effective.

Healthfinder.gov is a government website where patients and consumers can find information and tools for healthy living and healthcare safety.  Healthfinder.gov has resources on a wide range of health topics selected from over 1,600 government and non-profit organizations to bring you “the best, the latest, and the most reliable health information on the Internet”.  It has strict quality guidelines and therefore does not accept advertisements or endorse products.  Instead, it offers only information and resources that has been both reviewed and selected. It offers an encylopedia of terms, personal health tools, the latest in heath news and a section in which patients can find services such as health care providers, health centers, home health care, and public libraries, as well as a searchable and browsable health organization directory either by name or health topic.

The Hospice Patients Alliance is a nonprofit charitable organization that works to agree with standards of care during the end-of-life period. There is a search engine run through Google on the website to find whatever topic is needed.

Institute for Family-Centered Care

MITSS, or Medically Induced Trauma Support Services, focuses on those who experience trauma for a medical reason. The website includes areas for patients and families, clinicians, and healthcare organizations. In the patient and family section, there is an opportunity to share personal stories, as well as a chance to read stories concerning the medically induced trauma of others. There are also patient and family resources. 

National Consumers League (NCL)

The National Consumers League is a  national, nonprofit organization that has represented consumers and workers since 1899. NCL has a long history of providing information to consumers to guide them in taking their medications, both prescription and nonprescription, safely and effectively. To address the problem of poor medication adherence, NCL is leading a public awareness campaign, Script Your Future.
