Research Summary of Progress (2010)

This document summarizes projects completed with funding from the NPSF Research Grants program. Over the past decade, the projects have covered a broad range of topics in patient safety. This report provides citations for related subsequent research as well as the original projects.

An Educational Needs Assessment for Improving Patient Safety (2003)

As part of a needs assessment conducted in 2002,  NPSF convened focus groups to discuss and determine the origins of, and ways to reduce, healthcare error. NPSF conducted a self-administered mail survey to identify patient safety educational and training needs. This report summarizes the key findings.

This report from the NPSF Patient and Family Advisory Council is a call to action for hospitals, health systems, and national and local healthcare organizations to involve patients and families in systems improvements and patient safety programs.

Public Opinion of Patient Safety Issues: Research Findings (2000)

In 1997, the National Patient Safety Foundation commissioned Louis Harris & Associates  to conduct a survey of the experiences and opinions of adults about patient safety issues. Between July 30 and August 21, 1997, 1,513 telephone interviews were completed.

Collaborative Leadership for ESRD Patient Safety (2001)

This is a report of a workshop held with and for the community of stakeholders involved with patients who have end-stage renal disease (ESRD).

Reporting as a Means to Improve Patient Safety (Roundtable Discussion, 2000)

Patient and aviation safety experts and health policy leaders from around the country convened in March 2000 for a discussion on the recommendations of the IOM report, To Err Is Human.  The roundtable was cosponsored by the Kaiser Permanente Institute for Health Policy, the National Quality Forum, and the Peter F. Drucker Archive and Institute.
