Doug Bonacum, MBA, BS

Doug Bonacum, MBA, BS, is the first recipient of the Chairman’s Medal at the National Patient Safety Foundation. He is a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM).

Mr. Bonacum is currently responsible for both patient safety and clinical risk management in his role as Vice President, Quality, Safety, and Resource Management at Kaiser Permanente. He has been with the organization since 1994.

Mr. Bonacum’s experience includes working as an Environmental, Health and Safety Manager for two large manufacturing facilities and eight years active duty in the US Submarine Force, where he was responsible for weapons and ship’s safety as well as nuclear power plant operations. He has a BS in Chemical Engineering from the University of New Hampshire, an MBA from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and a Certificate in Healthcare Management from the University of San Francisco.
