May 3, 2007 – The second annual NPSF Stand Up for Patient Safety Management Award was presented at the NPSF 2007 Congress. The Management Award is given to a Stand Up for Patient Safety member organization that has successfully implemented an outstanding patient safety initiative led by or created by mid-level management. The award recognizes an initiative that has involved staff at all levels of the organization and that has resulted in demonstrated improvement in patient safety, and measurable, positive changes in care provided at the facility.

May 3, 2007 – The creation of the new Lucian Leape Institute at the National Patient Safety Foundation (NPSF) was announced today at NPSF’s Annual Patient Safety Congress in Washington, DC. Dr. Lucian Leape is a physician and Adjunct Professor of Health Policy at the Harvard School of Public Health, and is internationally recognized as a founder and leader of the patient safety movement. The National Patient Safety Foundation’s Annual Patient Safety Congress is the field’s preeminent meeting on patient safety, bringing experts, practitioners, patients and other stakeholders together to share new strategies, research and knowledge focused on improving the safety of the healthcare system.

8th Annual NPSF Patient Safety Congress and PAHO Regional Patients for Patient Safety Workshop to Convene in San Francisco
April 19, 2006 – Developing and sharing initiatives and strategies for improving patient safety are the focus of two major meetings being held at the San Francisco Marriott during the second week of May. The 8th Annual National Patient Safety Foundation Congress begins on May 10 and a consumer workshop convened by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) in coordination with the World Health Organization (WHO) is scheduled to begin on May 8.

On May 10-12 at the San Francisco Marriott, the National Patient Safety Foundation (NPSF) will hold its 8th Annual NPSF Patient Safety Congress, Leadership for Safety: The Time is Now! Beginning with an intensive Leadership Day on Patient Safety on May 10, Leadership for Safety: The Time is Now! brings together over 130 experts in more than 60 sessions to discuss initiatives designed to reduce medical errors and to improve patient safety. National and international health experts, as well as patient, family, and consumer representatives, will be sharing their expertise and experiences in making critical improvements that save lives and reduce harm to patients.
The National Patient Safety Foundation (NPSF) completed its planned governance restructuring with the announcement of the members of its Board of Directors, Board of Governors, and Distinguished Advisors. The new three-tier structure was several years in the making, recognizing the evolution of NPSF as an organization now better able to address the needs of the patient and improve patient safety in the delivery of health care.
