The Ask Me 3 program is designed to be used within your community and
your community’s health care organizations. Here are some tips for implementing
Ask Me 3 in your community:
- Keep in mind that effective communication is a two-way street and try to
deliver information to patients with the 3 questions as organizing concepts.
- Distribute Ask Me 3 brochures to community organizations and community-
based practices and health centers. A sample number are included
in your Patient Safety Awareness Week toolkit and additional copies can
be ordered from NPSF at: http://www.npsf.org/. Materials are now available
in English, Spanish, French, Chinese, Russian and Arabic.
- Send electronic versions of the Ask Me 3 brochure to your employees
and constituents. Electronic versions of the brochure can be downloaded
by going to: http://www.npsf.org/askme3/.
- Place an article about health literacy and Ask Me 3 in your community
newspaper, your organization’s newsletters or in-house magazine and
offer to do so for the publications or newsletters of community organizations
and practices. Included in this packet is an article to use for this purpose.
An electronic version of this article is available at: http://www.npsf.org/askme3/pdfs/matte_article.pdf.
- Display Ask Me 3 posters throughout your organization and community.
Posters are included in your Patient Safety Awareness Week toolkit and
additional posters can be ordered on the NPSF website at: http://www.npsf.org/.
- Be on the lookout for the Ask Me 3 Video, which will be a useful tool, particularly
for those challenged with reading. This video will also be available
with overdubbing in a variety of languages. Use this as a centerpiece
for community meetings on the topic of health literacy and patient
safety. Visit http://www.npsf.org/askme3/ for more details.
