As a central voice for patient safety, NPSF is committed to a collaborative approach in all that it does and therefore offers a portfolio of programs targeted to diverse stakeholders across the health care industry. Professional Resources and Support

Online Learning

Educational Modules — educational resources for advancing your commitment to patient safety, developed by experts in the field, offering affordable, self-paced learning options and continuing education credits.

Patient Safety Curriculum — 10-module online course, CE and CME accredited, self-paced, with audio lectures, presentations, and videos, providing the context, key principles, and competencies associated with the discipline of patient safety and their application in everyday practice.

Professional Learning Series Webcasts – ongoing series offering continuing education and the convenience of a webcast format to foster peer-to-peer collaboration.

Patient Safety ListServ — an online open forum for constructive conversation on issues of patient safety, serving a community that includes patients and families, researchers, providers, administrators, and those in the c-suite.

Research Grants Program — funds innovative projects each year that are directed toward enhancing patient safety in the United States.

Patient Safety Leadership Fellowship — awarded annually, through joint sponsorship by NPSF and the American Hospital Association, to encourage leadership in the patient safety field by providing health care professionals an opportunity to integrate innovative strategies within their own organizations.

Awards — the NPSF Chairman’s Medal, Socius Award, and Stand Up for Patient Safety Management Award, and the Doctors Company Foundation Young Physicians Patient Safety Award are presented each year at the NPSF Congress.

Certification in Patient Safety — NPSF supports the new CPPS credential, which establishes the standard for patient safety competency and distinguishes health care professionals who meet the knowledge requirements; ASPPS membership provides a discount on the cost of the examination.

Events

Annual NPSF Patient Safety Congress — the premier educational and networking event for the field, crafted by patient safety leaders, providing real-world tools, resources, and evidence-based solutions to patient safety issues.

Lucian Leape Institute Annual Forum & Gala once a year, the Leape Institute holds a forum for open conversations with the distinguished members of the Institute, followed by a gala reception and dinner featuring a keynote speaker.

Patient Safety Awareness Week — an annual, national and international, NPSF-led education and awareness campaign for health care safety.

Membership

American Society of Professionals in Patient Safety — the first and only individual, multidisciplinary membership program with patient safety as its organizing principle. ASPPS was established to advance patient safety as a distinct and vital health care discipline, and to build an engaged community of individuals committed to accelerating the delivery of safe patient care.

Health professionalsCorporate Council — provides a forum for industry leaders to work alongside NPSF board members, health care providers, hospital executives, and patients and their families to facilitate improvements in patient safety.

Stand Up for Patient Safety™ — delivers evidence-based tools and resources that allow organizations to meet current patient safety goals and engage executive leadership, clinicians, frontline staff, patients, families, and the broader community in advancing patient safety. Membership is available to hospitals, health systems, physician offices, and ambulatory facilities.
