|Certification Board for Professionals in Patient Safety|
The Certification Board for Professionals in Patient Safety (CBPPS) was formed to oversee a rigorous and comprehensive credentialing process that attests to patient safety competencies and expertise. The board’s chief responsibility is the development and administration of an evidence-based examination that provides candidates with a process by which they can demonstrate their competency in patient safety science and application.
This professional certification program
The Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS) credential is maintained on a three-year cycle.
Who Should Become Certified?
The Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS) credential distinguishes health care professionals who meet the competency requirements in the areas of patient safety science and human factors engineering, and who demonstrate the ability to apply this knowledge to effectively plan and implement patient safety initiatives. Candidates may include patient safety professionals, clinicians, non-clinical health care workers, executives, and other professionals with the requisite background.
Eligibility Requirements at a Glance
Individuals from across the health care spectrum may sit for the Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS) examination providing they possess a baseline combination of education, experience, and a commitment to improving the safety of patient care.
Candidates for the CPPS credential are those who include patient safety practices as an integral component of current or future professional responsibilities. In addition, candidates must possess academic and professional experience at one of the following levels:
The cost of the CPPS examination is $400. Members of the American Society for Professionals in Patient Safety (ASPPS) qualify for the discounted rate of $295. Organizational members of the Stand Up for Patient Safety Program qualify for the discounted rate of $320. International candidates, please add $100 (U.S. dollars) for international examination fee.
