Safety Culture & Technology Innovator Individual Award

Lucian Leape Institute in partnership with Medtronic

NPSF Lucian Leape Institute Forum & Keynote Dinner
September 28, 2017, Boston, MA

 

Safety Culture & Technology Innovator Award Criteria:
The National Patient Safety Foundation’s Lucian Leape in partnership with Medtronic presents two awards to recognize individuals and teams who have demonstrated extraordinary and innovative initiatives to drive successful implementation of technology or process improvement through culture change. One award will recognize an innovative team, and the second will recognize an individual champion. Winning submissions will demonstrate critical cultural interventions that enabled and led to successful technology adoption with measurable impact on patient, family, and workforce safety.

 

Eligibility:

  • Submissions for individual award must be an individual champion working to implement technology or process change in any healthcare organization.
  • Submissions for team award must be teams working to implement technology or process changes in any healthcare organization.
  • Award is for the best cumulative responses demonstrating sustainable, innovative initiatives to drive successful implementation of technology or process improvement through culture change.
  • Award will be conferred by the NPSF Lucian Leape Institute in partnership with Medtronic at the LLI Forum & Keynote Dinner.
  • Responses will be judged and winners selected by a panel identified by NPSF. All review committee decisions are final.
  • Award recipients will be announced at the LLI Forum & Keynote Dinner
  • Registration to the LLI Forum & Keynote Dinner will be covered for individual awardee or one team representative
  • Travel and accommodation will be covered for individual awardee and one guest or two team representatives.

By submitting an entry, the author grants Medtronic, the Lucian Leape Institute and the National Patient Safety Foundation each an unrestricted license to publish the entry in any and all publications it or they deem appropriate.

 

Submission Requirements:

 
Each submission should detail personal or team dedication to the implementation of a technological innovation or process improvement that positively impacts the safety of patients and/or the workforce. All submissions must be brand agnostic and may not identify the manufacturer or specific model of technology. Each submission should answer the following questions in approximately 200 words each:

 

Individual Submissions:

  1. Please describe the organizational challenge your work addressed.
  2. What is the type of technology or process innovation that you have utilized or adapted (please do not provide brand)?
  3. How did you influence the organizational leadership to successfully implement the technology or process change?
  4. What critical cultural components did you develop or leverage to embed and sustain improvement? (E.g., How did your current organizational culture support you? What changes to culture were necessary for successful implementation?)
  5. Please describe how you measured the degree and sustainability of improvements on patient and/or workforce safety.
  6. How might your success be transferrable and replicated in other health care organizations?

All nominations must be submitted by 5:00 pm ET on June 9, 2017.
